How do hard and soft hands work?
Bicycle’s basic rules count picture cards as 10, number cards at face value and an ace as 1 or 11. The objective is to beat the dealer without exceeding 21. Its general rules are a starting point, not proof of a particular online table’s conditions. [1]
| Hand | Total | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Ace + 6 | 7 or 17 | Soft 17: the ace can count as 11 without exceeding 21. |
| Ace + 6 + King | 17 | The ace counts as 1; counting it as 11 would exceed 21. |
| 10 + 7 | 17 | Hard 17: no ace can currently count as 11. |
| Ace + Queen | 21 in two cards | A natural-blackjack example; check the table’s settlement exceptions. |
Why does the blackjack payout ratio matter?
Assume two fictional tables settle a qualifying natural blackjack at different ratios. On a ₱100 stake, 3:2 means ₱150 profit, while 6:5 means ₱120 profit. If the original stake is returned separately, total receipts would be ₱250 and ₱220. The ₱30 difference concerns that settlement only.
This is a ratio comparison, not a claim that either payout is available at a listed casino. A multi-card 21 or a hand after splitting may be treated differently. Read the actual rule before assuming it qualifies for a natural-blackjack payout.
Which rules should you compare?
- Does the dealer hit or stand on soft 17?
- What is the payout for a qualifying natural blackjack?
- When can a hand be doubled or split, and what happens to split aces?
- Are surrender, insurance or other optional bets offered, with which conditions?
- What is the base stake, and is an additional variant fee compulsory?
Evolution’s public information describes different blackjack variants, including an extra fee for Lightning Blackjack. Check the exact title and fee rather than applying an ordinary-table example to that variant. [2]
Insurance and side bets settle under their own rules. The word “insurance” does not make the main hand risk-free. Doubling or splitting can increase the total money committed, so check the complete amount before confirming.
What should you do with an unfamiliar rule?
Open the rule panel and find the precise condition first. A strategy chart written for different rules cannot establish what your table permits. If the wording remains unclear, leave the table and ask official support; there is no need to decide under a round timer.
Frequently asked questions
What makes a hand soft?
An ace can count as 11 without the hand exceeding 21. If it must count as 1 to avoid exceeding 21, that flexibility is gone.
Is every 21 paid as a natural blackjack?
No. Check the two-card definition and settlement exceptions, including split hands, in the actual rules.
Does insurance protect my whole balance?
No. It is a separate bet under its own conditions, not a guarantee against losses.
Can doubling or splitting increase the total at risk?
Yes. Read the additional stake and allowed actions before confirming. A base wager alone may not describe the final amount committed.
